May 11th. Siddalls Cup. Home game versus l'Oust C.C.

35 overs per side.

Played at le Saint.

l'Oust won the toss & elected to field.

Gourin made good progress in the hot afternoon sun with good knocks from Start Nicholas 43, David Amos 22 & Yffig Malard 14. The last wicket fell with one ball left of their allotted overs & they had reached a total of 135. Dave Brewer was the pick of l'Oust's bowlers taking 2 wickets for 5 runs.

In reply the l'Oust opening pair started off well with David Walton & Jon Ward scoring 33 runs for the first wicket, but the remaining batsmen struggled to a total of 55 all out. Due to an excellent bowling performance by Lee Snelling, who took 6 wickets for 15 runs.

Gourin & le Saint won by 80 runs.

May 17th. Siddall's Cup vs Des Ormes C.C. at Des Ormes.

Due to player unavailability & communication problems Gourin turned up at this important fixture against what is the strongest club in the group, with only 9 players.

Gourin won the toss, which in the event, was the only thing we were to win on the day. On their super fast artificial wicket Des Ormes were far too good for Gourin's depleted squad, who were skittled out for 16 runs. The main architects of this rout were Pete Reynolds with figures of 4 wickets for 7 runs & N. Chandervedi with 3 wickets for 3 runs.

Des Ormes openers completed the execution by knocking off th required runs in 2 overs.

May 25th. versus Rock C.C. at Chateau Tronjoli, Gourin.

This game was hastily rearranged from Saturday 24th; which was notable for the incessant rain. Ivan Tattersall & Don Smith, laboured mightily to get the pitch ready for the game. Matters were hampered by the fact that all the gear had to be manhandled from the car park to the pitch, because the gates to Tronjoli had not been unlocked. Due to the previous days heavy rain the wicket was a little on the soft side, with very variable bounce. The bright warm sun did little to improve the situation.

Gourin skipper Ivan Tattersall won the toss & elected to bat. It was alway going to be difficult to score & the fact that the outfield was very slow put a further brake on the run rate. Top scorer for Gourin was Dave Amos with 11. Veteran Don Smith kept a series of partners company with a dogged innings of 55 minutes.

Gourin struggled to a total of 50, which in the circumstances was a creditable score. Rock after a poor start, with 4 wickets down for 15 runs, dug in & finally ran out winners by 1 wicket. Best figures for Gourin were Arul Anneculate, with 4 wkts for 2 runs & Lee Snelling with 2 wkts for 4 runs.

Saturday 31st May. versus Chiseldon C.C.

Gourin entertained the second of their English touring clubs at Tronjoli. This week-end the weather ws kinder & although the pitch was still a little soft, play got off to a prompt start. The game was due to occupy 35 overs. Gourin lost the toss & were put in to bat. Gourin applied themselves to their task & on the slightly unpredictable wicket reached the grand total of 94 all out. A knock of 20 by skipper Ivan Tattersall, ably supported with 30 from Arul Annaculate, formed the backbone of the innings.

The visitors needed a good start, but struggled right from the beginning under the onslaught of some tidy bowling from the opening attack of Arul, Tom Edmonds & Lee Snelling. The seamers & spin of George Mallen 14 for 1, Peter Turner 24 for 1 & the star of the attack Don Smith with 19 for 3 saw Gourin home by 6 runs.

Sunday 8th June. Versus l'Oust at Sérent.

This was the return fixture against our old rivals, in the Siddall's Cup. Having beaten them soundly in the first encounter, we were keen to complete the double.  Gourin continued the sequence of lost tosses & l'Oust opted to bat first. Gourin struck quickly getting Jon Ward out in the first over. Thanks to a sound innings from Dave Walton of 35, they declared at 91 for 9 wkts. Gouin's best bowlers were Jaspal Singh 15 for 2, Lee Snelling 13 for 2 & Tom Edmonds 32 for 4.

Gourin chasing l'Oust's target also got off to a bad start, with Tom Edmonds ou to a ball which did not get up at all. The total had reached 42 before the next wicket fell. A win was still on the cards. However a middle order collapse saw us lose 6 wicket for 11 runs. We finished all out for 71, a disappointing finish to a promising start. Jaspal Singh posted the best score for Gourin with 26.
